Herbal Farm

The Department of Pharmacognosy is maintaining an area of about 1 acre of unique herbal garden having nearly 150 species of various medicinal herbs in our campus.

The demo herbal garden is useful in teaching the students how to

Authenticate
Cultivate and
Preserve medicinal herbs.

We are utilizing these herbs for academic and research purposes.

We have released a CD ROM on “A Compendium of Medicinal Plants” and their software contains a detailed note on each species that are grown in the Periyar Herbal Farm. It is very helpful to academicians, research scholars and drug manufacturers.

We also have an appreciable herbarium where the specimens of several medicinal plants are collected, photographed and kept documented.

We have publsihed Medicinal Plants Booklet - Volume I and II, each comprising of information about 100 medicinal plants in English and Tamil with colourful plates.
